Do You Need A Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

by Elevation Now | Jan 8, 2025 | Blog | 0 comments

Before scheduling a Lymphatic Drainage Massage, it is important to understand the purpose of lymphatic drainage and if it’s the right massage for you. But first, what is our Lymphatic System and why would it need drained?

The Lymphatic System is more like the body’s cleaning service. It consists of vessels, nodes, and organs that work together to facilitate the proper flow of lymph (fluid that is made of white blood cells, proteins and fats), remove waste products from it, and direct the waste products to organs that are responsible for flushing them out of the body. If the lymphatic system is not working properly, lymphatic fluid and toxins can build up in your tissues and can put your body at risk of developing certain diseases. Lymphatic drainage massage is used specifically to move lymph from congested areas of the body back to your lymph nodes.

During a Lymphatic Drainage Massage, deep diaphragmatic breathing is used to activate your deeper lymphatic system, then manual techniques are applied to unaffected areas of the body. After those areas are cleared, then light manual techniques are applied to the affected limb. This way, your lymph is able to be cleared and reabsorbed properly.

If you’re currently experiencing any of the following conditions, you’ll benefit from a Lymphatic Drainage Massage.

Allergies and/or food sensitivities

Bloating

Brain fog

Chronic lethargy (persistent tiredness)

Constipation

Depression

Digestive problems

Swollen lymph nodes

Excess weight

Increased susceptibility to colds and flu

Sinus infections

Skin problems/dry and or itchy skin

Swelling in your fingers/rings fitting more tightly

If you suffer from any of the following condition, then we recommend doing a Lymphatic drainage Massage at least monthly.

Rheumatoid arthritis

Fibromyalgia

Lipedema

Lymphedema

Chronic Venous Insufficiency

However, if you suffer from the conditions below, a Lymphatic Drainage Massage could be more harmful than beneficial and we do not recommend one for you.

Heart conditions

Kidney failure

Blood clots

Infections

Deep vein thrombosis

It is important to remember that drinking plenty of water, eating fruits and vegetables, and staying active are other wonderful ways to aid our bodies in removing waste!
