“It’s going to be a beautiful day with a perfect temperature.”
Said no weather forecast ever.
Maybe if you’re in Ron Burgundy’s sunny “stay classy” San Diego area!
But even then, is the temperature ever perfect? You can’t say that anymore! Someone will be cold and someone else will be hot with the same temperature!
Here’s what we hear now instead, “The temperature will be a balmy 90 degrees, (our mind says: stay indoors)…the temperature will be a frigid 24 degrees, (our mind says: stay indoors)…the temperature will be a mild 72 degrees, but the pollen count is high, (our mind says: stay indoors)…the temperature will be a mild 80 degrees, but there is a 20% chance of rain (our mind says: stay indoors)…the temperature will be nice and warm, but there is a high UV index, (our mind says: stay indoors)…the temperature is finally cooling down a bit, but there may be 30 mph winds (our mind says: stay indoors).
Sound more familiar?
Warning, warning, warning, fear, fear, fear, stay safe, stay indoors. 68-72 degrees is your ally.
Humbug! Hogwash!
Adaptation is our ally.
We’ve got to get outside. The sun won’t kill you, but your chemical cocktail of sunblock will. You need Vitamin D. (Moderation, though right?)
Allergies bad? Those start in your gut. Improve your gut health by seeing a practitioner that can help you heal. Our Wellness Coach Kathy can help you with this.
Wind is annoying but get out in it anyway. Remember flying a kite? Go buy one and get outside! Is the wind too strong? See how far you can lean into it. Get your hair all knotted up in it and laugh.
Humid? Allow your skin to soak it up.
Too dry where you live? Drink more water and get outside.
Rain won’t melt anything – go be in it (lightning will melt things, use discretion). Oh, it can be so exhilarating smelling the rain!
Get yourself outside more often and become more adaptable, stronger and more resilient.
A friend of mine travelled monthly to Saudi Arabia. The nomads lived in tents with long white garments in 120-degree heat. No air conditioning, no sunglasses. That is adaptable. That is strong. That is resilient. That is way more than I’m suggesting. Look at Wim Hoff and what he’s accomplished.
Check this blog I wrote about the health benefits of cold showers and saunas.
Bottom line. Nature nurtures. 68-72 degrees inside all day everyday will diminish your life experience. There is so much more to see and explore. The birds are calling…and we don’t get good reception through insulated, UV resistant, storm proof windows.
