What causes my spine to misalign?
Our bodies are held up against gravity because we have “tone” or tension throughout our structure that keeps us from being a blob on the ground. Tension, therefore, is a good thing!
Stress we experience in our life is the root cause of every malady we face as a human race, whether it be physical (falls/traumas/repetitive motion/postural), environmental (poor air quality, bad foods we eat, bad things we drink, medications with side effects), or emotional (ummmm, yeah, I think we can all raise our hand high on this one!). ALL combine to ADD to the TENSION we already have present in our body. So, tension is a good thing, but too much tension from too many stressors is what tips the scale…not in our favor.
If we have stress that our body fails to adapt to, it becomes locked and stored in our structure. It creates unbalanced tension which leads to compensations, instability, faster wear & tear (degeneration) of joints, and problems that perpetuate. Unbalanced tension is created because of accumulated stressors that we have not adapted to.
Since our spine is the center of ALL movement and activity, it is the primary target for accumulated stressors and storing tension. That causes one or more of the 24 vertebrae along with your pelvis to become fixated (subluxated in chiro terms), compromising the optimal function of not only the joint, muscles and surrounding tissue, but more importantly, your nerve system communication. That precludes a downhill slippery slope of symptoms developing and creates a vicious circle.
The absolute best thing we can do to counteract stress is the following: Constant and never-ending improvement with respect to how we eat, how we move, and how we think. And along your path to increasing your health and vitality, we are here to help you integrate that stored tension, to benefit your being into an elevated state of wellness.
Stress is inevitable, but how we choose to move through and adapt to it is totally within our control. Your chiropractic adjustment allows your body to adapt and move through stress more efficiently. See you at your next visit!
