GARBAGE IN = GARBAGE OUT

 

             Our output is a product of our input. Every ache, every pain, every bad mood, every upset tummy, every sore muscle, ALL have a cause, a reason for existing. Oftentimes it is tough to understand, but we all learned, “for every action there is an equal and opposite _________.” That is right, “reaction.”

 

             So why is it, that we can go to bed FEELING fine and then wake up and our low back seizes up? Why is it, that we can FEEL FINE reaching in the back of our car to pick something up and soon after our shoulder hurts like it is never hurt before and we cannot rotate our neck to one side? Why is it that we eat the same food, drink the same drinks, and FEEL OKAY doing so, then someday end up with a diagnosis of irritable bowel?

 

             Here is the short answer: Our health has LITTLE to NOTHING to do with how we FEEL.  Instead, our health has A LOT MORE to do with how we FUNCTION.

 

             Only 10% of our nerve system expresses and experiences pain. ONLY 10%!!! What that means is there is A LOT MORE happening unconsciously, or “under the radar” of our perception of our “state of health.”  Think of this as well, have you ever resolved an ache or pain, only to find that once it is resolved, low and behold, another area shows up as achy or painful. The truth is, it was already there, it was just overshadowed by a higher intensity pain area that you worked to resolve.

             So, is it hopeless? And how do we measure health if we cannot just base it on how we “FEEL?” And, lastly, you may wonder, “Am I too old and broken down to improve my health and function?” 

             First of all, it is NOT hopeless. The human bodies capability to HEAL is TRULY AMAZING, no matter our age. BUT we must start basing our health on MORE THAN JUST how we FEEL. And now, more than ever, we must measure health in different ways. We must measure health in terms of; “What foods do you eat?” “What drinks do you drink?” “What is your flexibility and core strength like?” “Do you know your Body Mass Index?” “Do you know your body fat percentage?” “Do you have a high level of stress and anxiety?” “Is much of your stress coming from things outside of your control?”

 

If you are willing to commit to small gradual improvements to improve your healthful habits, then NO MATTER YOUR AGE or current condition, you can absolutely improve your health and function!

We must change our INPUT to change our OUTPUT. Health is encompassed by how we EAT, how we MOVE, and how we THINK. If we EAT well, MOVE well, and THINK well, we will reap the rewards of a higher functioning body.
